If you're looking for an authentic, peaceful, and relaxing vacation - book this resort! I booked our three night stay after reading the great reviews and the amazing staff exceeded our expectations.
We contacted the hotel directly and they gave us a great deal on a 2 bedroom villa. Ariana, was fantastic and easy to communicate with. She took care of everything and booked our driver to meet us at the hotel and we stopped for groceries along the way. The staff and owner greeted us upon arrival and they ALL treated us like family during our stay. We just can't say enough wonderful things about all of the staff and the beautiful resort!
The villa was modern and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equip with all of our needs. We did have a small problem with our AC, but the staff quickly solved it and made sure that we were happy. During our stay they brought in a man to play Balinese music while we dined and local yoga instructors after breakfast. We enjoyed both tremendously!
We mainly dined in the restaurant during our stay for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu has Indonesian and typical global cuisine items to please everyone. The food was fresh, delicious, and very reasonably priced. We also hired the staff for an in-house massage and a cooking class, which were fantastic and fun.
On our last day, we took their scooters for a ride through the rice fields to visit a local school and the principle who makes jewelry to fund the school. This was probably the top highlight of our trip. Connecting with the locals in the fields working, having tea with the principle, and stopping by a local snack shop was so much fun. We felt like locals!
We also hired their driver to take us to Ubud to ride an elephant and see the monkey forest. We connected so well with our driver and enjoyed sharing lunch and our music with one another.
At the villa, the landscape is so quiet and relaxing. Beyond the infinity pool you can gaze as the rice fields and the ocean. The wildlife around the area is so tranquil with colorful birds flying around. Here you can be perfectly happy lounging around or allowing the staff to create special activities for you to do.
All of our thanks to the wonderful staff for making us feel like family and for your special touches during our stay. You made us feel very special and you gave us an unforgettable vacation. We hope to see you again soon. Stay healthy and happy! :-)
What a great holiday! We only stayed for 10 days but wish it could have been much longer. This place is amazing and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Much has been said about the "real" Bali but this really is it - set among the rice paddies and quiet villages, this is the place to come to for a really relaxing holiday. If you want bars, restaurants, shopping and nightlife, look elsewhere. This is not Kuta or Seminyak and if that's what you want, you'll be disappointed. But if you want peace and quiet, incredibly friendly staff who genuinely aim to please and a relaxing time, then by all means come here.
Accommodation: we had a 2-bedroom private villa with its own pool. Very spacious and comfortable, well-equipped and with 2 bathrooms and A/C in both bedrooms and the main living area it is perfect. Private when you want it to be and when you feel like being sociable, the main resort pool and restaurant is just a short stroll away. The views over the rice paddies to the ocean is beautiful. The main resort accommodation (2 and 3 bedroom apartments overlooking the pool) are also great and spacious enough. Free Wi-fi in the villa and throughout the resort so you can stay connected if you need/want to.
Resort: First we have to mention the staff - they really can't do enough for you. Friendly service with a smile, they all seem to enjoy their jobs and take pride in their work. Nothing was too much trouble and it was a real pleasure dealing with them. The main pool and terrace is gorgeous and we loved lazing by the pool. My kids made friends quickly with some of the other families and they played and swam all day and slept soundly all night. The facilities are well maintained and the owner (Bernard) and manager (Ariani) are always available for a chat and welcome any feedback to improve things. Yes it's a bit far out of the way (2 hours from the airport) but the free transfers made it stress free and it's really worth the long drive to get here. If you're feeling adventurous the staff can arrange some fun excursions and you always have the option to hire one of the hotel drivers to take you anywhere you want to go. Ubud is just over an hour away so no further really than it would be from Denpasar.
There are no other dining options in the area but the restaurant on site is great and reasonably priced. The menu is varied with Indonesian dishes and western options. Each villa and apartment has a basic kitchen and you can cook your own meals if you prefer - just make sure to stop off at one of the larger supermarkets on the way in from the airport.
The resort also has scooters for hire but if you just want to take a ride down to the beach (about 2km away) you can use them for free. The beach is black volcanic sand but too dangerous for swimming with big waves and a vicious rip. Worth exploring though for the ride through the local village and past the temples.
In summary, I can't recommend Sahaja Sawah highly enough if you want a relaxing, peaceful holiday far from the mad traffic and bustle of Denpasar. It is perfect for those looking to switch off and for families with young children.
Thank you Sahaja Sawah, we will be back!
I am not sure there are many other words to describe our stay here. This was definitely one of the most incredible places that I have ever had the privilege to stay!!
The Sahaja is THE place to stay for relaxation and peace. Its not a tourist resort. It is literally set in the rice fields in the midst of Balinese villages, about 10 mins from the Sea. You certainly get a real taste of Balinese village life here and will totally unwind in the beautiful countryside.
It's about an hour from Canggu, an hour and half from Semenyek, Kuta and Ubud, which can all be reached via their private drivers who will chauffeur you around like royalty for the day - wherever you want - and ready to create tailored trips to your fancy - and extremely well priced!!
The beach is about 10 min cycle / moped ride away (both can be borrowed from the Sahaja at no extra cost!) or a 20 min walk. That may seem far to some, but actually it's a lovely journey through a traditional Balinese village where locals greet you on your way. It's a black sand beach, very secluded and beautiful but the sea is a little rough so not really good for swimming. But do go down for a few hours to watch the sunset - amazing - I'd do it every day if I could! Or even catch the fishermen at work. Well worth the visit.
The resort itself is very well presented and is beautifully decorated. A lot of love and attention has gone into making it feel homely and inviting. It was a very tranquil and a colourful place to relax and unwind. The Main supermarket / food shops are about 20-30 minutes drive so make sure you get all your supplies as soon as possible, although I wouldn't worry too much as the food at the restaurant was to die for. Tasty, well cooked traditional Balinese style dishes, and everything else you could want was on offer, including western dishes. All our meals were prepared and cooked fresh and I would definitely recommend the fresh juices! Delicious and very very reasonably priced.
The villa we rented (Sahaja no.3) was beautifully designed, very private, and very clean. It had amazing views over the rice fields and further to the sea ( which you could hear as you woke up every morning ), and contained all necessary utensils for cooking. It was very peaceful and quiet and you would not have thought there to be any other guests in the resort. The beds were extra comfy and there was always bottled cold/hot water for you to dispense. Each morning staff would come and turn the beds and clean the bathrooms / floors for us.
For us, the best part about staying at the Sahaja was definitely the staff. Always friendly, polite, and and attentive, able to assist you with absolutely anything that you wanted. Just ask!! From day trips to private villa spa treatments!!
They were like a little family, and treated you like part of that family too.
Extremely good communication and always someone to help you with anything you needed.
We would definitely consider going again.... perhaps sooner than we think!
If you are looking to get away from it all, look no further! This particular resort is away from the hustle and bustle of the big towns and is a little piece of true Bali paradise. Although you are in the middle of corn and rice fields you can easily access the main cultural sites, which are about an hour and a half away, using the resorts excellent driver. This is well worth the money because sign posts are limited and you get the specialist local knowledge of the driver, he will take you to all the superb restaurants and cultural attractions.
The staff at this resort are utterly fantastic and nothing is too much trouble, by the end of two weeks we felt like family, they will certainly be in our hearts forever.
The restaurant caters for both western and Indonesian tastes, if you prefer, you also have the option of catering for yourselves with a well equipped kitchen in your villa.
We can't wait to return :)
We stayed in one of the two bedroom pool villas. Villa was as described on the homepage, well equipped, the pool was great and a nice small garden, a lot of palm trees, bushes and flowers with lounge chairs. Airport pick-up and drop off worked perfect. Staff was very nice, polite and helpful. You can be totally private if you want, but you can also feel like part of the family! The area is pretty remote, which guarantees quietness, nature and fresh air. If you want the tourist thing, don't come here, if you want to have nature and feel being part of the resort family and get Bali hospitality it is the place to stay! The beach is close by, with ATV around 5 minutes, black sand, sea a little bit rough but still enjoyable!
We had breakfast, lunch or dinner every day either in the resort restaurant or delivered to our villa. The food was always freshly prepared and very tasty, also great fruit cocktails! We also enjoyed seafood barbecue and Indonesian rice table served at our villa, both fantastic. They don't have a Spa, but offer all kind of massages at your villa, we had a few, all fantastic. We stayed for almost three weeks and did day trips from here. One thing to know, the living room has no air condition, only bedrooms are air conditioned. The wifi is not that great, very slow and a lot of disconnections. It broke down completely once, but the resort management provided us with a 4G router which worked perfect! We will for sure come back!
If you looking for beautifull, quiet place with possibility of communing with nature this will be an ideal place for you. Comfortable apartments, nice anf helpfull staff lovely place. Beach for walking - 20 minutes walk, 5 minutes by a car. Restaurant in the hotel. Shops, warungs 20 minutes by a car. Big swimming pool, a lot of additional activities organized by hotel staff. Warmly recommended.
I know Sahaja Sawah Resort from a friend of mine. I never heard this place before, as this place is not located among the famous touristic areas in Bali. Surprisingly, when we visited Sahaja Sawah...instantly you can feel the atmosphere of fresh environment, natural beauty of typical Balinese paddy field and a real great escape from the crowd of cities. I felt relaxed...
If you need a real retreat from all the crowd and hectic life, come to Sahaja Sawah will be one of the best option, try it :-)
There are many good resorts in Bali, but only a few are hidden gems like this beautiful and tranquil villa resort.
This villa resort lies amidst rice paddies, with ocean views for the most gorgeous sunsets. Nearby villages are still untouched by mass tourism and show you the truely kind Balinese people.
Luckily the resort offers everything from rental bikes and scooters to in house massages (try their full body Balinese). The resort restaurant offers both Indonesian and Western choices so once you arrive, there's no need to leave. Just take a dip in their zen swimming pool...
If you get restless, the location is central for most sightseeing interests so their nice drivers make sure you'll reach your sightseeing destination easily. Just ask the friendly management for any assistance, you won't be disappointed.
I may regret telling the world about the unspoilt Bali in its luxury wrapping...enjoy!
This has been by far the best place I have ever been, not only for the location which is idyllic but also for the wonderful, attentive, friendly and lovely owner and staff working there. From the beginning I felt at home. The villas are beautiful decorated and the landscape is like paradise. From the beginning I was welcomed with a smile and to be honest I couldnt stop smiling the whole time. I left in tears!
I truly recommend this place for several reason I will explain further below:
1st. The tranquility, harmony and beauty of the place.
2nd. The wonderful staff who make you feel that you have known them forever.
3rd. Mr Bernanrd, of course, who I had great conversations with and in Spanish! After been abroad for more than one year I really missed talking in my language.
4th. The food which is incredible. With such a wide offer I was eating something different every day. And it is not only the quality of the food but the beautiful way they serve it to you.
5th. The village nearby. I walked everyday for more than one hour on my own, along the village between the rice paddles and to the beach. People in the village are the nicest people I have come across in my trips. Always greeting you, welcoming you in their houses, explaining you about their lives and traditions. I could easily have pictured myself living there forever! And the most important, travelling on my own Ive never felt so safe in a foreign country as I felt in this place.
I could continue going on and on about the wonderful experience I enjoyed in Sahaja Sawah resort but I think I have more or less expressed above the most important bits.
Just one last thing: the price! I could not have ever afford a experience like this back in Europe, so the price is also a go:)
Dont miss out the opportunity to experience the real Bali! Its a place which have been yet spoilt by hundreds of tourists.
Lovely stay at Sawah Villa! You can expect exactly what is shown in the pictures and more. We were welcomed with warm smiles at the airport by their driver (with cold towels and water) and by Ariani upon arriving at the villa (cold towels, fresh watermelon juice, and Tri Datu bracelets). Lucky us, Ariani upgraded us for free from Villa D3 to C2. Villa C2 had a beautiful balcony view of the rice patty fields, infinity pool, and the ocean. The place felt homey and was simply perfect. Be prepared to experience the ultimate local lifestyle because there were no restaurants within walking distance. However, the food from their restaurant menu sufficed and is reasonably priced. Do take advantage of the grocery stop on your way to the villa, especially if you are a picky eater and would like specific snacks and drinks or would like to cook yourself. All the staff were beyond attentive and genuinely friendly. We were immediately handed towels after walking back from the beach to the villa in the rain. Ariani also offered me a rice hat which saved me from the sun and the rain and enhanced my look in my pictures! Their great attitude stayed constant throughout my stay, even up till the very end when their driver dropped us at the airport at 5:30am! I regret not bringing books to add to their mini library. Although their DVD selection was quite limited, I still enjoyed an American comedy that I haven't watched before. Overall, I would recommend this Sawah Villa without hesitation. Really exceeded my expectation!
Had a wonderful time here. Location was perfect . Villa very clean with wonderful Veiws. Staff always smiling and friendly .Could not do enough for us. Always helpful and effectiant . Will definatly stay there again.
OMG!!!!!! Where do i start.
Okay so before i go on to brag about this gorgeous hidden gem i need to tell you that Sahaja is 2 hours from Kuta. This did not bother us, as the treasure at the end of the tunnel was simply breathtaking. I stayed at Sahaja for 2 weeks from 25th December 2015 - 8th January 2016 with my family and from the moment you arrive until the day you leave the staff can not do enough for you. Mr Bernard is such a loving, caring, honest, giving person who was so welcoming of us. It was a pleasure and honor to meet such an amazing person like him. We even had the honour of meeting Bernards beautiful wife and children...such a lovely family. The staff, well they are just as beautiful, very kind hearted and very delightful. They made us feel like family hence why my husband got called Mr Tony and myself mummy. Ariani, Yanti and Duni you girls are amazing you made the end of our holiday so hard to leave. The hospitality given by everyone who works at the resort was amazing. The chef in the kitchen Dek Pur her cooking is fantastic, we will miss the springs rolls, nasi goreng, soto ayam the ozzie pudding we will miss all the many lunches and dinners we had. The Christmas Dinner and New Years Eve dinner was extraordinary thank you .....Dudi and Kutu also need a mention because whenever you needed any in case keeping they were on it. The resort itself is magnificent the rooms are clean, spacious and modern and the beds are comfortable. The views are spectacular and sunsets are so gorgeous and every night is so different. The tranquility this place has to offer is truly heaven. If you are looking for a place to get drunk, party and misbehave this is not the resort for you. We spent 2 weeks lazing around the pool, and what a pool it is....bike riding, quad bike riding, having in house massages and going for afternoon walks into the villages and this was our kind of relaxing peaceful holiday. When you work so hard all year and your lifestyle is so busy, Sahaja is the perfect unwind place to be. We are already thinking about going back just my husband and I in April for quick get away as its such a beautiful, peaceful resort. We really miss the outstanding hospitality. The hospitality industry in Australia could learn a lot from Sahaja. Congratulations and well done on all the hard work you all do. We cant thank you enough....I cant wait to come back, May God bless you all and keep you safe.
Love you Ariani, Yanti (mummy) Duni and of course love you too Mr Bernard. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
In the very rare event of the airport being closed when you are due to arrive, we will endeavour to reschedule your villa booking to a mutually beneficial time.
